Castaway Cay is the gold standard other private islands get measured against — a 1,000-acre island in the Abacos that's been hosting families since 1998, long enough to have every wrinkle ironed out. The whole swimming area is a protected lagoon behind a sea wall, which means calm, shallow, worry-light water — the single biggest reason it works so well with little kids.
Tell your kids this: there's a real airplane runway on this island from its old days, and you can ride a bike straight down the middle of it.
The rhythm: walk off the ship (grab towels on your way — they're handed out at the gangway, not on the beach), hop the tram or take the ten-minute walk, and settle into the easiest beach day in cruising.
Almost everything is included, so the real intel here is about maximizing, not budgeting. Lunch, soft-serve, drink stations, chairs, umbrellas, hammocks, kids' life vests — free. The staffed kids' club has an island outpost too, so drop-off childcare exists ON the beach day, which is borderline miraculous. The two paid things actually worth it: bike rentals (cheap, they have training wheels and child seats, and the runway-and-observation-tower ride is the memory your kids keep) and snorkel gear — they've sunk statues and a submarine out in the lagoon for kids to find. Note: snorkel lagoon requires the free vests and no kids under 5 in it.
Two crowd hacks that change everything. One: food only runs during lunch hours (roughly 11:30–2:30), so bring sealed snacks from the ship for the morning and late afternoon. Two: everyone panics and leaves the island 1–2 hours before departure. Don't. The crew sweeps the island — nobody gets left — and the last hour is the beach nearly to yourselves. Best hour of the day.

**The family lagoon** is calm, shallow, and enclosed, with the floating slide platform out in the water (38-inch minimum) and the toddler splash pad on land for the crew that's not ready to swim out. **The bike trail** is the sleeper hit — an easy ride through the mangroves, down the old runway, and up an observation tower with the only full view of the island. **The free 5K** happens every island morning, no signup drama, and finishers get a medal at the bike hut — walk it with the stroller if you want; it counts.
One flow tip: chairs near the first tram stop fill first. Ride to the second stop or just keep walking — the far end of the family beach has the same everything with half the people.
