A real Bahamian beach day — pack like you're staying, because the tram only goes one way worth going.
Lookout Cay opened in 2024 on the southern tip of Eleuthera — the same long, skinny Bahamian island as Princess Cays, just at the other end. It's not a manufactured island; it's a real stretch of Eleuthera coastline, and the whole place is built around Bahamian culture — local artists did the design work, and the daily Junkanoo celebration (the Bahamas' signature music-and-dance festival) is the heartbeat of the day.
Tell your kids this: "Cay" is pronounced "key" — and this one sits on an island so skinny that in places you can see ocean on both sides.
One thing to know walking in: the ship docks at a long pier, and the main beach area is a walk-plus-tram away. Plan the day around staying ashore, not bouncing back and forth.
The one thing every parent complains about, so hear it from me first: the commute. It's about a half-mile walk down an unshaded pier, then a ten-minute tram to where everything is. Round trip back to the ship mid-day eats close to an hour — so pack your bag like you're staying all day, because you are. Free wagons and strollers are at the dock; grab one even if you think you don't need it. Once you're there, this is one of the easiest days in cruising: lunch is included, chairs and towels are free, and the kids' club is staffed — drop-off, with its own kids' lunch — which means you might actually read a chapter of a book.
Two water notes: the beach is open ocean, not a protected lagoon, so there's real (gentle) wave action — stay arm's length with little swimmers, and know that's why they don't hand out floats here. The splash pad area is great but small, so hit it early before it packs out. Shade is limited everywhere; claim it first, then relax.

**The family beach** has a shallow, gradual entry and stretches long enough that walking two minutes past the crowd gets you space. **The splash pad zones** are the little-kid headquarters — one for the slide crowd, a calmer one for toddlers — right next to the included BBQ lunch, which is exactly the logistics win it sounds like. **The nature trail to the lighthouse** is the underrated hour: shaded stretches, water refill stations along the way, and the best photo spot on the island at the end.
Don't miss the Junkanoo celebration — it starts near the tram stop and parades to the cultural center, and the kids end up dancing in it whether they planned to or not.
