Aruba is the Caribbean with the difficulty setting turned all the way down: sunniest island in the region (it sits below the hurricane belt, so the weather almost never breaks a promise), tap water you can drink, one of the lowest crime rates anywhere, and beaches that look Photoshopped. The ship docks right at Oranjestad, the candy-colored Dutch capital, with shops and a free downtown trolley steps from the gangway.
Tell your kids this: this island is basically a desert with perfect beaches — instead of jungle, it's cactus and wind-bent divi-divi trees that all lean the same direction, like the whole island is pointing somewhere.
The famous sand is a short ride north. The town is the appetizer; Eagle Beach is the meal.
Eagle Beach is the family answer and it's barely a decision: 10 minutes and a few dollars by public bus (the terminal is right by the port and the buses are clean, air-conditioned, and easy) or a quick cab. Powder sand, calm shallow water, shade huts, and the famous photogenic divi-divi tree for the postcard shot. Palm Beach, the next stretch up, trades calm for resort energy — more restaurants and watersports, more crowd; pick by your family's volume setting. Both are as low-stress as Caribbean beach days get, and everything runs on dollars.
The trap to skip with kids: the famous Flamingo Beach photos everyone's seen are on a private resort island with pricey day passes, limited kid hours, and a sellout problem — chasing it eats your day for a photo op. The free trolley loop through downtown is the better bonus hour: it's a hop-on ride kids enjoy for its own sake, and it drops you back at the ship. Aruba's whole personality is "nothing here will stress you" — lean into it.
