The other Roatán gate — same island, one great beach, and possibly a sloth in your morning.
Roatán has two cruise ports, and this one — the Port of Roatán at Coxen Hole — is where the non-Carnival ships land. Same island rules apply: Roatán is a laid-back Caribbean dive island 30 miles off mainland Honduras, its own world with its own (much better) reputation. What changes at this port is the geography: no built-in beach at the terminal, but you're 25 minutes from West Bay — routinely ranked among the best beaches in the entire Caribbean.
Tell your kids this: just off the beach here is part of the second-largest reef on Earth — and this island might be the one place in the Caribbean where you can hold an actual sloth.
The terminal compound is pleasant; the town around it is skippable; the island beyond is the point.
The formula: gated terminal → arranged ride → West Bay → best beach day of the cruise. West Bay is the real deal — powder sand, water like glass, and the reef close enough that decent swimmers snorkel to it from shore (the fish traffic at the west end is absurd). Beach clubs and resorts sell day setups with chairs and food; grab one, because free-lancing shade there is a losing game. The ride out: use the port's official taxi dispatch or a pre-booked shuttle, agree the fare and the pickup time before rolling, and skip the freelance offers at the gate. Coxen Hole town itself, just outside the compound, is a working port town with nothing for you — this is a "tourist zones, don't wander" island, easy to comply with because the tourist zones are where everything good is anyway.
The other Roatán signature: the animal sanctuaries. A couple of family-run parks between the port and West Bay let kids meet sloths, capuchins, and macaws up close — it's the most-requested excursion on the island for a reason. The honest note: handling wild animals is a gray zone welfare-wise; the calmer viewing-focused visits sit easier than the pass-the-sloth photo mills. Pick your operator accordingly.

**West Bay Beach** is the destination: 25 minutes, then a genuinely world-class beach where the day self-organizes — beach-club chairs, shoreline snorkeling at the west end, lunch on the sand. **The sloth and monkey sanctuaries** en route make the classic two-stop day: animals in the morning, beach until all-aboard. **Half Moon Bay at West End**, the smaller village alternative, trades some polish for local character and calmer crowds — the repeat visitor's pick.
Lock your return ride when you arrive, pad it by 30 minutes (island time is real), and carry small US bills — they work everywhere and simplify every transaction on the island.
